Newcastle United Historian
Welcome to ‘Newcastle United Historian’ – a quarterly magazine edited and produced by the locally based Geordie journalist, Stan Gate. For many years Stan has also contributed to ‘UNITED’, the official Newcastle United
matchday programme.
In November 2025, ‘The Historian’ joined forces with the ‘Toon Legends Club’ who arrange regular meetings where ex-NUFC players attend to help raise thousands of pounds for local charities.
Editor: Stan Gate, with regular contributions from Mark Hannen, Paul Joannou, John Gibson, Stephen Allott, Dan King, Paul Tully (by kind permission of his family).
Since 2018, ‘The Historian’ has provided generations of Newcastle United supporters with news, views and interviews with former players: all legends in their own right.
Here are just a few of our testimonials:
Sir Les Ferdinand (NUFC 1995-1997) “It’s a fantastic magazine”.
Andy Cole (NUFC 1993-1995) “There are some great personal stories”.
